You will design and build the adaptive serial production system that enables reliable, repeatable satellite builds at an increasing rate. Your focus is on industrialization: developing the plan, facilities, tooling/test infrastructure, standardized processes, and readiness gates needed to transition from prototype builds to serial production.
Scope note: This role is focused on planning and developing the production system (facility, tooling, processes, readiness). It does not (yet) own day-to-day production execution, shift/output management, or line leadership. As the production system matures and output ramps up, this role can evolve into a Production Manager/Head of Production-type position, with day-to-day execution and leadership of the production organization, depending on company needs and your interest.
Senior Production Development Engineer (AIT Industrialization) (all genders)
München
Full-time
Permanent employee
Your Mission:
- Develop the AIT Industrialization Plan: target production rates, capability roadmap, milestones, risks, and dependencies (facility, tooling, people, suppliers).
- Design the scalable, adaptive satellite production system: end-to-end build/integration/test concept from prototype builds to serial output (process + system design).
- Plan and develop facilities and layout: workstations, ESD/cleanliness concept, material flow, kitting/storage, safety, and ergonomics.
- Define and implement tooling and test infrastructure: MGSE/EGSE concept, benches, fixtures, measurement systems, calibration, and maintenance approach.
- Industrialize AIT processes: standard work, acceptance criteria, process parameters, and cycle-time/capacity assumptions to enable repeatability at rate.
- Establish production readiness and quality gates: process controls, NCR loop design, yield/FPY metrics, and continuous improvement system.
- Create and maintain production documentation: work instructions, travelers, checklists, and traceability/configuration linkage.
- Support validation of the production system during pilot builds: observe execution, collect data, identify bottlenecks, and implement process/tooling/facility improvements (execution remains owned by the AIT/production team).
Your Background:
- 5+ years in industrialization / production engineering / manufacturing engineering / AIT/MAIT engineering (space/aerospace strongly preferred; complex hardware required).
- Demonstrated ability to design and deploy production systems: process flows, station concepts, capacity/rate planning, readiness milestones.
- Practical experience with facility and workstation planning (layout, ergonomics, ESD, cleanliness/contamination control, material flow, kitting/storage).
- Strong experience defining tooling and test infrastructure (fixtures/jigs, benches, MGSE/EGSE concepts, measurement systems, calibration/maintenance planning).
- Ability to create industrialized processes and documentation people actually use: standard work, work instructions, travelers, checklists, acceptance criteria.
- Experience with traceability/configuration tooling (PLM/MES/ERP and doc control)
- Familiarity with ECSS / Product Assurance concepts is a big plus
- Strong communication and documentation skills in English (as German a plus)
